If you've decided to start a laser engraving business, give your customers the best results. This is especially true where commercial signs are concerned. After all, signs are an important part of any commercial advertising plan. If you're new to laser sign engraving, you might not know how to ensure the clearest results for your customers. Here are four tips that will help ensure quality results for your laser engraving.

Move in the Right Direction

When it comes to laser engraving, direction plays a big role in results. If you're like most people, you work from top to bottom. But, when you're doing laser engraving, you want to reverse the process. You want to work from bottom to top. Laser engraving generates a lot of smoke. If you work from top to bottom, the smoke can cloud the work surface. Unfortunately, smoke can undermine the quality of the engraving. That's why you want to engrave from bottom to top. When you work from bottom to top, you can push the smoke away from the engraving surface. That means you'll have clear, quality results every time.

Choose the Best Depth

If you're used to other types of engraving methods, it's time to change the way you look at depth. When you engrave with other methods, you want to go as deep as possible. That's because you need depth to get the right results. That's not the case with laser engraving. Laser engraving allows you to reduce the depth, while still getting quality results. The easiest way to reduce the depth is to choose a lower setting on your laser engraver.

Remove the Residue

If you're going to use laser engraving for your commercial signs, be sure to keep the surface clean. One way to do that is by investing in a vacuum table. Without proper cleaning, the laser residue can contaminate the sign surface. The contamination can leave your signs with less-than-quality results. That's where the vacuum table comes into the picture. The vacuum table removes all surface residue while you're laser engraving.

Ensure Clean Edge

When you're doing any type of laser engraving, you want to make sure you get clean edges. There are a couple of ways you can do that. If the laminate you're using is covered in a protective film, don't remove it until you're done engraving. If there is no protective film, you can use painter's tape instead. You can engrave right over the tape. Once you're done, remove the tape. You'll have crisp, clean edges for your signs.
